Heart disease is an umbrella term for a number of different diseases affecting the heart. As of 2007, it is the leading cause of death in the United States, England, Canada and Wales, killing one person every 34 seconds in the United States alone.
The blood vessels consist of arteries, arterioles, capillaries, venules, and veins. All blood is carried in these vessels. The arteries, which are strong, flexible, and resilient, carry blood away from the heart and bear the highest blood pressures. Because arteries are elastic, they narrow (recoil) passively when the heart is relaxing between beats and thus help maintain blood pressure. The arteries branch into smaller and smaller vessels, eventually becoming very small vessels called arterioles. Arteries and arterioles have muscular walls that can adjust their diameter to increase or decrease blood flow to a particular part of the body.

Beware Of Kids That Have Signs Of Heart Disease!

Under normal circumstances would we think that only adults, especially the elderly, are narrowing and hardening of the arteries. But, the results of a study presented at the annual American Heart Association in Chicago last month (2006) is likely to change views.

A group of researchers in Canada, Finland, Australia, the United States, Norway, Italy, the Netherlands and found that the children with risk factors for heart disease, including high cholesterol and diabetes are now showing signs of heart disease, including hardened by Blutgefae and arterial wall thickness. The report showed that in 12 of 15 studies, children with risk factors were more likely to have increased thickness of the arterial walls, which could lead to heart attacks in early adulthood. The risk factors include familial hypercholesterolemia, where children whose defective gene leads to high cholesterol levels in them, diabetes, obesity, and genetic factors.

Some experts and doctors believe that the finding is probably not new as previous postmortem studies of the young United States soldiers, in Des Korean War had shown changes in atherosclerotic arteries. The process should have started much earlier in their lives. It is obvious that plaque deposits of cholesterol and fats, takes years to build and risk factors in childhood accelerate process.

There is the indication that the number of young people who died suddenly was on the rise . While the risk for atherosclerosis, or hardening of the arteries can lead certainly more than from childhood to adulthood, it is still no concrete evidence for these sudden deaths of young people with atherosclerosis childhood, unless their postmortem results are known.

Although there is a growing number of children are suffering from these and other risk factors for cardiovascular disease, tests for the future of heart disease is not common practice. At present there is no need to screen routinemaig lipid levels in all children.

If of the lipid levels are normal, no specific treatment is required. Nevertheless, the maintenance of healthy lifestyle is very important. These include emphasis on healthy eating, exercise and regelmaige a good weight management.

Selectively people with diabetes and are at risk and statins were screened for the treatment of children with familial hypercholesterolemia. Statins are drugs that lower bad cholesterol levels by limiting the amount of cholesterol in the body can make.
